What About Mono-tasking?

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009 | Healthcare, Politics | 1 Comment

I know that the new way of doing things is to multi-task but there are things that might better be done with a laser focus. One of those things that should have been mono-tasked is President Obama’s healthcare inititiative.

Instead of going to try to get the Olympics, or going across the country trying to get the birther vote, he should be concentrating on the votes that count. President Obama is a Constitutional lawyer he should know that the votes that count are the ones that will give him the sixty votes.

The Democrats seem to have forgotten that they won the election. They also seem to have forgotten that the people elected them to get things done. If they don’t get things done, they may not get re-elected.

If President Obama got the healthcare with a public option that he and the majority of Americans want, then he could be in a better position to help those Congressmen and women that need to be re-elected. He should be concentrating on those people to get their vote.

He should forget about pleasing the Republicans and remember what he said after his Presidential win: that he is the President of all the United States. While the public option may not please everyone, it will please the majority and that’s what our laws require.

Speaking of what our law requires. why don’t we do away with the filabuster option in the Senate? The House has done away with it and I think that the Senate should too. The filabuster makes it almost necessary to get a two thirds vote which should be reserved for Amendments.

P.S. Today is my daughter’s birthday. Every day, but particularly at her birthday, I am reminded I may never create a breathtaking sunset or a Mona Lisa but having a part in creating this Awesome human being makes me thankful to God, and Da Vinci jealous.

P.P.S. Happy Birthday!!! Anjanette Love Dad

Damn You! Liberal Media

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009 | Life, Politics | No Comments

President Obama has brought a very glaring problem to the attention of the public. We are being indoctrinated. Now I’m not talking about the disgusting things that the President suggested in his speech like our children getting a good education; no, I’m talking about the despicable things that the liberal media has forced us to believe.

I remember the first time it happened to me. It was 1965 and the media put on this ridiculous show called I Spy. The liberal media wanted us to believe that Blacks and Whites could work together and even be friends. They wanted us to believe that Blacks could become Rhodes Scholars. The sad part is that I felt that way already due to a previous indoctrination from my mother but that was when parents actually taught their children right from wrong.

This was sort of when the flood gates openned. Soon we had the groundbreaking Kirk kissing Uhura which is kind of funny when you think that Kirk had already interacted with a green Orion slave girl and no one complained. Soon we had Chico and the Man espousing the view that Hispanics and Whites could get along. What next World Peace?

No Excuses

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009 | Economics, Politics | No Comments

Obama’s nightmare may have come true. Al Franken has officially won the election and that gives the Dems the 60 votes to prevent filabusters. This means that the Administration has to perform.

They won’t be able to blame anything on the Republicans till the midterm elections. If they don’t perform, then it may be the Republicans turn to do things.

I think that President Obama should now give up the idea that bipartisanship is essential to get the job done. I think that the only bipartisanship that counts is the one that always counted. We have always ruled by bipartisanship. The bipartisanship between the majority and the minority. I know that some would say that you can’t have bipartisanship between the majority and the minority because by definition there has to be agreement but the fact that we don’t have alot of revolutions indicates that there is some agreement.

I hope that President Obama will be able to disregard his impule to be well liked in favor or our desire to be well governed. He hasn’t, so far, pushed through any major legislation that address the concerns of the common man. The credit card bill didn’t make it mandatory to be able to fight the FICO scores tyranny. It didn’t even make it mandatory to give us our FICO scores.

They are still talking about health care as if we need the health care industry to come up with a plan. Medicare works, why wouldn’t universal health care? Think about it, the elderly are more likely to need healthcare then any segment of our economy. The government took over the segment that should be the most expensive and still health care costs went up astronomically. Do we really expect them to come up with a solution?

We haven’t even faced the real problems yet. Lots of people are being laid off but are “saved” by unemployment. What happens when they don’t have any income coming in, then the dominoes will really start to fall. Now is the time for actions, not excuses.

The New Democratic Republicans

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009 | Economics, Politics | 1 Comment

In 1929 the Stock Market collapsed, the banks failed and the country went into a depression. The Government, under the Democratic President, created jobs for people, welfare programs and re-opened the banks. Sound familiar?

Many people feel that this was not what actually got us out of the Depression. many feel that we didn’t get out of the Depression until we entered the Second World War. The War sent all of the country back to work , either in the service or the factories. The Republicans being students of history are thinking that this is the time to act like Democrats.I guess you can see where this is going. Yes, the Republicans,  not having learned from history, want us to repeat it.

The Republicans seem intent on going to war with Iran. They are perturbed that Pres. Obama is not taking a firmer stance on Iran. We don’t have the best record of supporting the right side in Iran but does that mean we should not blunder into another war? Shouldn’t we continue to be the World’s Only Super Power/Bully?

Think about it. What gives us the right to dictate to other countries? Other than the fact that we have more nuclear weapons and military armaments what gives us the right to tell others how to live their lives in their own countries?

Are we always morally right?  Indians, African Americans and Manzanar War Relocation Center survivors might disagree. Are our leaders always the smartest? Two words, George Bush. Are our ideas always the best? Not if the New Democratic Republicans are any indication.

Stop the Torture

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009 | Politics | 1 Comment

America now has a new policy of not torturing . Actually we had the policy we just didn’t enforce it. The question is what are we going to do about it?

On the one hand, President Obama has more than one thing on his plate right now. The economy might be more important then the torture debate right now. I agree that his focus should be on the economy but doesn’t he know how to delegate? The Attorney General should show some initiative and start prosecuting. President Obama has been described as a Constitutional lawyer so I’m sure he can decipher what constitutes torture.

I may be expecting too much to say that the Congress also knows what torture is. Whether the Speaker of the House knew about it or not we deserve to know if people were tortured. I have no doubt that we did waterboard certain prisoners and that  creates a problem. The enemy will use that to justify bringing in a destructive device that will harm Americans that aren’t even aware of why they are dying.

If we want to be a moral country we have to stand up and force our representatives to do what is right and stop the torture.

How Dare He?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009 | Diplomacy | No Comments

A quick perusal of  my blog would give a person the idea that I think that President Obama can do no wrong. I hate to disillusion people, but this week my opinion of him changed.

At the 5th Summit of the Americas, President Obama shook hands with Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez and also accepted a book from the dictator. Pat Buchanan was one of the people decrying this act. He, like alot of the right , was perturbed that Obama did not defend our country while the members of the summit had the nerve to criticize our government. The fact that he didn’t at least walk out leads the right to belive that he is weak.

President Obama afterwards defended his actions by the weak excuse that Venezuela has about one six hundredth of our defense budget and also claiming that they have oil. I’m beginning to believe that Presinent Obama is unaware how a President should act. Since I am a patriot I will try to help.

First he has to realize that if we have a six hundred to one advantage then we should use it to show we are not weak. If we only used one three hundredth to attack Venezuela we would still be able to successfully wage another two hundred or so wars . If you really want to prove you aren’t weak, Mr President we could attack North Korea or Iran. If we really want to prove we are crazy and consequently should be feared we could attack NATO.

How dare Mr. Obama shake hands with a dictator and then even accept a book. Doesn’t Mr. Obama know that the proper thing to do when a dictator offers to shake your hand is to respectfully decline with the explanation “no you’ve got cooties”. Then he goes and accepts a book from that same dictator; well we might as well give him the keys to the White House.

The final straw was when he wore a suit and tie to the meeting. nothing says you are weak like wearing suits. He goes without the suit jacket in the Oval Office why not here? If it had to be a suit, couldn’t it at least been camo with a flak jacket. The way he is acting the summit nations might start to believe that we want peace and cooperation in the world. How dare he?

Cheney in Dementialand

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009 | Politics | No Comments

Ex VP Cheney is at it again. He is trying, like some latter day Princess spinning gold from straw, to spin his crimes into patriotism. The ex-spinmaster is trying to make it seem like Obama is unpatriotic for his recent actions.

Cheney has suggested that Obama is putting the country at risk by ending the torture at Guantanamo Bay prison. The way I understand this is that it is going to be easier for Al Qaeda to recruit terrorists if we don’t act like them.I can hear it now. “Okay boys, those despicable Americans have decided to play hard ball. They are no longer torturing, which means that their prisons will be better than our luxury apartments. The seventy two virgins bit isn’t working too well anymore some of our members are asking if there is a reason that they are still virgins.”

Cheney contends that the water-boarding prevented another attack on our nation. This does not take into account that the last time the Twin Towers were attacked was in 1993 making it eight years between the 2001 attack and the 1993. Maybe it just takes eight years for the terrorists to attack.

Cheney seems to think that the new administration relies too much on diplomacy to settle our problems with the world. I guess he feels that we should be plowing head first into another disaster like Iraq.

He seems to be painting a picture of the Bush administration as the best. Could he actually be the only person in the world who believed that by putting up a sign it really was a “Mission Accomplished?” Thank God that we couldn’t have given them four more years. Although if we had they probably would have cured cancer.

What Recession?

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009 | Economics, Politics | No Comments

People are losing their homes. Famous People are being ripped off by Bernard Madoff. Unemployment is likely to rise to double digits. All of these economic indicators would point to a recession and yet I am beginning to wonder: What Recession?

Don’t get me wrong, I, like many Americans, am tightening my belt to the point that people have thought that I have lost weight (They also worry that my belt will give way and they will be smothered in blubber). I, like most reasonable people, am trying to pay off my credit cards, start saving, get an emergency fund, forego buying the big screen TV, and even put off planning to go on vacation. I would think that this is the least you should do in a recession. So I have a question: With the economy being so bad how can so many people be going to the Presidential Inauguration?

They are expecting anywhere from two million to two and a half million people to be at the event. This will not only be more than George Bush, it is my understanding it will be more than any inauguration. So let me get this straight; at a time when people are facing worse economic times than any time since the Great Depression people feel the need to spend their money to be half a block to almost two miles away from an event they could see better on television.

I would like to believe that all of the vendors and restaurants and hotels are giving huge discounts to the people because times are tough and this is a historic event etc. but my belief in Santa Claus has still not placed Salma Hayek under my tree. I’m sure that the law of supply and demand has kicked in and accommodations are astronomical.

Now I realize that there are going to be lots of the well off in the crowd but they all can’t be Beyonce. So I can only assume that some of those attending will not be well off. Are they doing this so that they can tell their grandchildren that they were there when the first black man was inaugurated? This seems like a pretty poor reason to invest what may be your last money, especially when you could lie. My grandchildren won’t believe that I was at the Lincoln assassination but if I tell them that I saw Obama Inaugurated they probably will, even if it was on tv.

I also question why, when the government is being weighted down with trillion dollar debt that they choose to run this. I don’t think the Constitution calls for this, so maybe we should end it. It seems like this is a lot of frivolity in times like these. What will I tell my grandchildren when they ask if i was at some historic event? I’ll tell them I was in a voting booth.

Don’t Be Nice in Front of Me

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 | General, Politics | No Comments

Most of the time when a President leaves office he looks a lot older then when he was elected. I know he is older but I mean that he seems to have aged disproportionately more in those 4 or 8 years. If things keep progressing the way they have been, President Obama may look like Benjamin Button at the beginning of his life when he leaves office. As if the economic crisis wasn’t enough now he will have to face more problems in the Middle East.

I can understand that Hamas has attacked Israel and that Israel has the right to defend itself, but does it have the right to do more? If  I remember from the Old Testament playbook it is not an eye for a spleen. Please don’t tell me that the Israelis have a right to eradicate Hamas because they are a threat because that’s what Hamas is saying about the Israelis.

Of course I won’t be solving this problem anytime soon, so I am trying to make things easier on me. A couple of days ago I was coming to a stop and a car was coming out of the parking lot. The car in front of me stopped and let the other car ahead of him. I quickly stopped. Then I prayed that the car in back would not be coming home with me. As I was waiting, it suddenly dawned on me that the car in front of me thought that he had done a good deed by letting the other car go in front of him. From my point of view, however, he had inconvenienced me and therefore had done a bad deed. Now I know that two wrongs don’t make a right but a right and a wrong make a neutral.

So I think we should agree to this rule. If you are in front of me don’t be nice; that guy leaving the 7/11  will have to wait for a break in traffic. If, however, the Black Toyota coming out of the Piggly Wiggly has me behind the wheel; do a good deed and let me out.

Warren in Wonderland

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 | Politics | No Comments

I don’t like to think of myself as naive( i know, how naive) but recently I’ve had my doubts. Some of my beliefs have been changed into misconceptions. What brought about this sea change of beliefs? The answer is Caroline Kennedy.

I used to believe that we were different from England in that we did not have a royal family. I thought that the belief that some people were divinely ordained to rule was a concept that we purged with the end of the Revolution. It seems to be at odds with that “all men are created equal” part of our heritage. I realize that when President Kennedy was assassinated the world was shocked but I was more shocked when I found out the way that his father made all of the money that put JFK in office. Does the end justify the means?

I thought that Obama was going to change the status quo. He was going to get rid of the old boy network. He has, since the election, put so many Clinton cronies in office that I guess he meant that he would get rid of the old boy network and replace it with the good old boy network.

I’ll admit that I used to believe my grade school civics teacher that anyone can become President. I now know that only the rich can be President. This wouldn’t be so bad except it means that any man who becomes President is beholden to the fat cats that get people elected. This leads me to Caroline Kennedy. She is being talked about as the replacement for Senator Clinton’s Senate seat.

The experts will tell you that the endorsements of Ted and Caroline were crucial for Obama in winning the Presidency. I may be naive enough to believe that Senator Clinton was not promised a place in the government in exchange for her campaigning for Obama. I’m not naive enough to believe promises were not made to the Kennedys.

What worries me most is that I was so afraid of being naive that I wasted my vote. I could have voted for Paris Hilton.
