Political Paranoia
Tuesday, September 30th, 2008 | Politics | 2 Comments
Is Hillary right? Are we falling for some far right wing conspiracy? Every so often I become paranoid about our government.
Take, for instance, the bailout. I’m no expert on economics, although I don’t think the experts have done much better than I could.
All the politicians will probably be claiming this, so I will too. When I heard about the government deregulating banks, I said that it was going to be trouble. Okay, I didn’t literally say it because the guy next to me would have changed his seat on the bus. I remember thinking that these regulations were put there for a reason but that my government was looking out for me. There hadn’t been a market collapse for years so the government must be right. I’m now considering that the government will repeal seat belt laws; after all deaths have gone down. This is precisely the point. The banks were regulated so that there wouldn’t be a collapse.
My paranoia wonders about that too. Is there a collapse? They start talking about problems and the Stock Market goes down. Why? Because the little investor had to sell. Who did he sell to? The big investor. I’m sure when Senator McCain was rushing back to Washington he wasn’t on the phone to his broker yelling, “Sell, sell!” I’m sure Cindy McCain’s business isn’t in bad shape.
Now here’s a one for the conspiracy theorists:
Suppose the fix is in. McCain rushes back to Washington and says to all the Republicans, “Listen, I’ve got a great idea. Let’s pretend that we are going to vote for the bailout and then don’t.”
Republicans: “Won’t that make you look stupid?”
McCain: “Choosing Sarah Palin made me look stupid. This will make me look pathetic. Oh wait, I can go on TV before the vote and claim a victory. I’ll be a definite underdog.”
Republicans: “How’s this going to help?”
McCain: “Let the little people have a taste of what it’s like to be without credit. They’ll be begging for a solution. Then I waltz in and save the day. They’ll all regret that they lost faith in me, which would be bad enough if it was Obama, but I’m a war hero.”
Republicans (in unison): “I think that’s the first time we head that. What about Palin?”
McCain: “Well, we’ll vote on Thursday. I’ve got her taking jabs at Biden hoping he’ll lose his temper. It should work out. If Biden seems to be picking on her, I get more votes; that couple with the fact that I’m the underdog, and a war hero…”
Republicans: *GROAN*
McCain: “Don’t worry.”
Republicans: “We still worry about Palin. Why her? Is there anything you have in common?”
McCain: “Why her? She was in a beauty contest. That’s what we have in common.”
Republicans: “You were both in beauty contests?”
McCain: “No, we both want world peace.”
Is He Ready to Lead?

He spoke out against the war even though it was unpopular. He served in the Illinois congress. He was in the U.S. Congress. He is considered an inspirational speaker. Is he ready to lead?
The recent campaign has raised the question is ready to lead as the president? The short answer is: no.
John McCain claims that he has experience and that qualifies him to be president. He is qualified in the same way that a paper boy is qualified to be the newspaper’s editor. Both have experience but not in the job for which they are applying. Only an incumbent president has experience to be the president.
Senator McCain has about 26 years experience in the Senate. The problem is that all the bills he sponsored and got passed were voted on. He didn’t have to be the only one who was responsible if the bill didn’t work out. The Senate enacted the bill not him. Does this mean he has no relevant experience for being president? The short answer is, “yes.” He doesn’t.
The McCain campaign even claims that Sarah Palin also has enough experience because she was governor of Alaska, our largest state. I guess because it is our largest state, it gives her more relevant experience than the ex-governor of our second largest state. (You know, the one who has been president for the last eight years.)
Does Senator Obama have the experience to be president? I don’t see why he should; nobody else does. The end result is that we elect people for President that we think will do a good job for us. Can Senator Obama lead? Well, he has one of the first prerequisites: people follow. Should we be worried that his lack of experience is dangerous? Consider this:
He spoke out against the war even though it was unpopular.
He served in the Illinois Congress.
He was in the U.S. Congress.
He is considered an inspirational speaker.
He was our sixteenth president, Abraham Lincoln.

P.S. Lincoln spoke out against the War with Mexico.
Setting the Ground Rules

- All blog entries, unless otherwise noted, will be mine.
- Entries will reflect my opinion of a happening at that time but I reserve the right to invoke the “Gandhi Rule.”
- If you don’t like it, feel free to mutilate yourself (Asshole Alert! If you are one of those people who do or will mutilate yourself, disregard this suggestion. I’m doing this for fun–not guilt.)
- Accept the fact that my thoughts may be controversial; sometimes deliberately. I don’t care if you disagree as long as your anger doesn’t turn to threats or physical violence. There is a reason I’ve been called “The Most Annoying Person in the World.” Idiot Alert!!!! In case you feel that I have thrown down a gauntlet of annoyance, I haven’t. I don’t want people vying for the Most Annoying title. If you are considering this, then I submit that you are the winner. The prize is a badge that you wear. If you think you are “the one” then cut out the square below; the badge will magically appear. The problem is you have to actually cut it out of your monitor screen for it to appear.
I know you’re saying to yourself, “What, does he think I am an idiot?” Check the alert description and get back to me.
- New blog entries will appear on Tuesday unless I’m so overcome with ambition (highly unlikely!) that I feel the need to write more, so–basically Tuesday.
- Just in case anyone reading this feels the need to tell me how the blog should be written or expect me to change because of what they say, please answer this question before commenting, “Didn’t you read rule #3?”
– Warren
P.S. The Gandhi Rule: Gandhi was asked how he could justify saying today the exact opposite of what he had yesterday. He replied, “That was yesterday.”
